Hell*Bert

A revamped version of the classic a Qbert

Enter the realm of Hellbert, a dark reimagining of the classic arcade game Qbert*. You play as Hellbert, a grim reaper–like figure who descends into hell to curse the world block by block. Each block must be cursed through three stages before it becomes permanently yours.

Fail to curse a block in time, and it rises to the heavens, lost forever. But beware—angels roam the arena, and being caught by them means starting over.

Key Contributions: 

  • Technical Implementation: Programmed interactive block behavior, including color changes on impact, rising block mechanics for incomplete patterns, and dynamic level difficulty scaling.

  • UI / UX Design: Designed and implemented all UI systems, including the main menu, one-sheet poster screen, game over screen, and score counter.

  • Environmental Art & Animation: Integrated environment assets and animated sprites directly within Unity.

  • Game Design & Documentation: Conceived the core game concept, documented design direction and gameplay flow, and created structured playtest forms to guide iteration.
